2024 CHEMTREC Summit - Guardians in Hazmat Safety: Fostering Preparedness, Response, and Recovery in the Industry

The 2024 CHEMTREC Summit, held from October 15-17 in sunny Miami, FL, brought together more than 200 attendees for three days of insightful discussions, expert presentations, and valuable networking. With 41 speakers, eight sessions, and a wealth of industry knowledge shared, this year’s summit was a standout event for professionals in chemical safety and emergency response.

Our keynote speakers set the tone with two powerful presentations. Mercedes Ramirez Johnson delivered a compelling survival story, “Safety: Don't Count on Second Chances," reminding us of the life-or-death importance of proactive safety measures. Chris Tagoe, Senior Vice President of LyondellBasell, followed with his presentation on "The Hidden Danger of Increased System Complexity in the Pursuit of Excellence," highlighting the risks that can emerge as systems grow more complex in the pursuit of operational efficiency.

Throughout the Summit, attendees enjoyed eight sessions packed with 30 presentations led by 41 industry experts, covering everything from training and security to the latest advancements in safety technologies. See more key analytics from this year’s event below:

Networking was a highlight of the summit, starting with our Poolside Reception on Tuesday, sponsored by OURAY. The beautiful Miami weather and relaxed atmosphere made for the perfect setting to connect with peers and enjoy drinks and food by the hotel pool.

On Wednesday, our CHEMTREC Signature Networking Reception brought energy to the night with a lively raffle and fantastic food. Attendees enjoyed frozen margaritas, empanadas, and a variety of savory bites while mingling and making valuable connections. CHEMTREC was thrilled to support the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) as the Charity Sponsor for the event. Thanks to the generosity of attendees and staff, over $5,405 was raised to help support the families and colleagues of first responders.
